Royal Ark Mariner
Royal Ark Mariner is a compact continuation available only to Mark Master Masons. Its flood narrative and emphasis on preservation give it a different atmosphere from Mark, while every English Royal Ark Mariner Lodge remains formally attached, or ‘moored’, to a Mark Lodge.
A separate story within the Mark family
The present English body works a Noah and flood narrative rather than another episode from the building of the Temple. Its institutional position is nevertheless tied to Mark: the governing body describes each Royal Ark Mariner Lodge as moored to a Mark Lodge. [1] [3]
Older Ark ceremonies do not demonstrate one uninterrupted organisation from the eighteenth century. The useful documented history is the later consolidation of the degree under the English Mark authority. [1] [2]
Eligibility and ordinary Lodge life
Mark Master Mason is the published qualification. A Mason therefore joins Mark first and then enquires through a Royal Ark Mariner Lodge, often one connected with his Mark Lodge. [1]
The degree is frequently scheduled near a Mark meeting, but that is a local convenience rather than a universal promise of no extra commitment. Dining, rehearsals, office and travel still need to be checked against an actual summons. [1]

Royal Ark Mariner may suit a Mark Mason who wants a concise, self-contained ceremony centred on preservation, trust and renewal. It offers a change of symbolic setting without requiring Royal Arch membership.
