Knights Templar
English Masonic Knights Templar is an explicitly Christian chivalric order entered from the Royal Arch. Its ceremonies use pilgrimage and knighthood as moral frameworks, while its governing body makes no claim of institutional descent from the medieval Templars.
Chivalry without medieval continuity
The order uses the image of the Christian pilgrim and knight, but modern Masonic Templary is a later institution. Its historical interest lies in the development of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Masonic chivalry, not in an organisational chain from the medieval military order. [1] [2]

Published qualifications
The governing body publishes Royal Arch membership and a Trinitarian Christian profession among the qualifications. Those are substantive conditions, not decorative themes, and a candidate should read the current wording directly before considering a local approach. [1]
A Preceptory remains responsible for proposal, local availability and its calendar. Eligibility therefore does not imply a right to admission or that a nearby unit is active. [1]
Preceptory life
Templar ceremonies can be substantial and visually distinctive, with mantles, swords and cross-based insignia. Offices and installations may require rehearsal even where the Preceptory meets only a few times each year. [1]
A realistic enquiry should cover Templar and Malta dates together, travel, dining and which regalia is needed at entry rather than later office. These details vary too much locally for a national price estimate. [1] [3]
Who may value it
The order may suit a Royal Arch Mason whose Christian belief, interest in pilgrimage and appetite for formal chivalric ceremony all align. Someone attracted mainly by historical knights but uncomfortable with the faith declaration should not treat the requirement as a formality.
Red Cross of Constantine is not the next rank or a substitute version. It uses Constantinian and imperial material in a separate organisation; comparing the local bodies and their eligibility is more useful than comparing regalia.
Knights Templar requires Royal Arch and Christian profession; Red Cross of Constantine is a separate Christian route with different governance and an invitational culture.
