Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines

The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines is a sovereign Craft Grand Lodge organised in Manila in December 1912 from Lodges then warranted by California. Its present jurisdiction includes Philippine Lodges and specified Lodges elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region; York Rite, Scottish Rite and family bodies remain separate organisations.

This is chiefly a guide to constitutional position in Philippines: what Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines governs, how its local bodies are warranted and where recognition questions need an official answer. What it is

Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines is a governing or coordinating body rather than a degree to be collected. The useful local questions concern its warranted Lodges, recognition relationships, territorial authority and candidate process.

Why people explore it

Readers interested in Philippine history, local Lodge fellowship, public service and a nationally rooted Craft jurisdiction.

What not to assume

Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines is not a degree above another Masonic body. It is a governing or coordinating structure, and its authority and recognition cannot be inferred from size, age or a familiar emblem.

Documented chronology

  1. Three California-warranted Lodges began formal steps to organise a Philippine Grand Lodge. [1]

  2. A constitution was approved and the first Grand Lodge officers installed. [1]

  3. The Grand Lodge publishes Lodge directories, edicts, proceedings and candidate guidance for its jurisdiction. [1]

The 1912 constitutional beginning

The official history identifies Manila, Cavite and Corregidor Lodges, all then under California, as the Lodges that organised the new Grand Lodge. It gives separate dates for the preliminary meeting, constitutional convention and installation. [1]

That account also records that Scottish and Filipino Lodges were not represented in the founding convention. The institutional history should therefore be told precisely rather than compressed into a claim that all Philippine Masonry united at one moment. [1]

A petition, not recruitment

The Grand Lodge says no one is invited to become a Mason and that an interested man requests a petition. Its current public requirements include age 21, belief in a Supreme Being and immortality of the soul, ethical life, application fee and background investigation. [2] [3]

Those public criteria are a starting point. A warranted Lodge, investigation and ballot determine whether an application proceeds; participation in an allied organisation is not a shortcut. [3]

Craft governance and allied organisations

The Grand Lodge publishes its own Lodge directory, edicts and proceedings. Its homepage also lists Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, Amaranth, youth bodies and Shriners as appendant or allied organisations. [1] [2]

Being listed beside the Grand Lodge does not place those organisations under one degree ladder or make their membership automatic. Their own governing bodies set qualifications and recognition. [2]

Who may value it

The jurisdiction may suit a candidate seeking Philippine Craft Lodge life, civic service, education and a large regional network grounded in a documented twentieth-century Grand Lodge history.

The Philippine York Rite offers Chapter, Council and Commandery routes after Craft, while Scottish Rite uses a separate Supreme Council. Those are later choices rather than alternative ways to become a Craft Mason. [1] [3]

Key distinction

Its 1912 American-chartered origin and later Philippine development should be distinguished from both earlier Spanish-era Filipino Masonry and today’s separately governed appendant bodies.
